Australian Bush Oils
Australia is producing some new and exciting essential oils perfect for new fragrance and skincare developments.
Fragonia Agonis Fragrans
Tony Burfield describes the aroma as "a pleasant fresh cineolic odour with a hint of a citrus note (which becomes more pronounced after a few minutes)mixed with a slight spicy cinnamon tonality and sweet balsamic undertones. The dry down is very faint being sweet, soapy and woody balsamic."
Preliminary work indicates that it has significant anti-microbial activity. It is an extremely balanced oil, with the oxides (cineol...which gives eucalyptus oil its distinctive aroma), monoterpines (alpha pinene) and monoterpenols (linalol, etc.) in a near perfect 1:1:1 ration.
Honey Myrtle Melaleuca teretifolia
Honey myrtle essential oil has an aroma that is slightly sweet with a hint of citrus but unlike the Lemon Myrtle, Honey Myrtle has warm, honey notes which gives it a depth not found in most lemon oils.
Scientific studies have shown that Honey Myrtle has some antimicrobial properties which are greater than Tea Tree Oil.

Rosalina Melaleuca ericifolia
“an extremely pleasant fresh profile revealing delicate cineolic and linalolic notes with a slight medicinal quality and with some suggestion of the cleaner notes of tea-tree oil. Dry-out is soapy and woody- herbaceous. The oil would be useful in formulating herbal blends, shampoos and domestic room-freshner disinfectants.” (Copyright Ó Tony Burfield April 2004).
Rosalina oil is recognised worldwide for its excellent therapeutic properties. Its major constituent, linalool, is known to have good antiseptic, and anticonvulsant properties. Its calming and relaxing properties make it ideal for sleep and stress disorders.
It is an excellent oil for upper respiratory tract congestion and infection, particularly in small children. It is also a gentle expectorant. It is readily absorbed through the skin and nasal mucosa and is ideal to use in steam inhalation or by adding a few drops on a handkerchief.
Topically, it may be useful when used on acne, boils and tinea.
Sandalwood Santalum spicatum
Fire Tree Xanthorrhoea preissil
The Fire treehas been defined by Luca Turin as “the most interesting smell of the last years”. It has a very sweet and strong fruity head smell, like apricot and myrtle. This notes goes on unchanged in the heart of the fragrance and it settles down after a day in a delicate and persistent woody fruity bottom smell.
It is indeed an interesting odour and it encounters a nearly universal positive appreciation
